Dubai Metro Blue Line Construction Set to Commence in 2024

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announces the commencement of construction on the Dubai Metro Blue Line in 2024, marking a significant milestone in Dubai’s transportation infrastructure development.

With an investment of US $4.9 billion, the Blue Line project aims to extend the Dubai Metro network by 30km, featuring 14 stations strategically located to connect five principal urban regions of Dubai.

Upon completion, the Blue Line will seamlessly link key areas such as Bur Dubai, Deira, Downtown, Business Bay, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Marina, JBR, and Expo City Dubai, catering to the needs of an estimated one million residents by 2040.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, highlights the project’s alignment with the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 and emphasizes its role in enhancing connectivity and integration with existing metro lines.

In 2023, the Dubai Metro accounted for the largest proportion of mass transit users, with a combined ridership of about 702 million across various modes of public transport, marking a 13% increase from the previous year.

Scheduled for completion in 2029, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro, the Blue Line project signifies Dubai’s ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainable transportation solutions.
